Hack Off Anxiety #4: Perceive Yourself Accurately
My aim with this series, which has been named “Hack Off Anxiety”, is to provide an accessible, real, and personable insight into my struggles with anxiety in bits and pieces; if this series can help make even one person’s life happier, it will be fully worth it. Each article typically includes an active step that one may take in order to make things better. I am not a medical professional and none of the words I say should be taken as medical advice.
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder but love is blind so in essence we are all just hurtling towards potholes and drawing conclusions about lands halfway across the planet of existence.
Hyperbole much? Maybe. Maybe not. Perhaps.
I’m going to pull off a #45 and make the claim that everyone resonates with this thought and if someone says otherwise, they are wrong.
All jokes aside, let’s actually sit ourselves down and take a good, long, hard, strong look at the person in the mirror. Michael Scott fans, calm down; I didn’t mean what you think I meant. Do you really see the person for who they are or do you just see a humanoid blob in its physical features? Worse, do you see the humanoid adorned with devil horns and smeared mascara, a tear dripping down the side of their face, standing in the midst of ruins? Be honest, do you?
